News from the County Chairman...

Now the clocks have gone forward, spring definitely feels on its way!

This weekend is our Easter Ball! Tickets are available online from Ticketsourceuntil  Midnight tomorrow and are selling fast. Limited tickets will be available on the door so make sure you get yours quick!

Our #Lentchallenge has finished and members can drop donations/sponsorship into the YFC Office so that a total amount raised can soon be announced. Thank you to all who took part and had a go.

April is another busy month for SFYFC members, starting with the WMA Pantomime and Senior and Junior Member of the Year competition on Saturday 7th April. Tickets can be bought online here. The next day we have lots of Shropshire members competing at the WMA sports at Evesham High School, Worcester. Good luck to all SFYFC members representing Shropshire this weekend. For those members not at the WMA rounds, our annual YFC Community Challenge Weekend is back with members helping out in the local community and doing our bit. From resurfacing school playgrounds to picking litter, members give up theirf time to do something good for our local area. The Community Challenge is our 3rd Chairman’s Challenge and a fantastic time to raise awareness of the two charities we are raising money for this year: Shropshire Riding for Disabled and Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

On Wednesday 11th, a small group are attending Shropshire Riding for Disabled’s training day at Walford College. This is an opportunity for members to meet the charity and learn about what they do. If you would like to join us, please get in touch with Clarrie.

Chairman’s Challenge really starts to get going this month, we have a HUGE CHALLENGE lined up by kind permission of hosts Rushbury & Cardington and Much Wenlock YFC. Join us for a 12-mile sponsored walk over the Long Mynd and Caradoc. 10.30am start, £5 entry. Just turn up on the day to join in.

The Young Members Forum have organised a social on Wednesday 18th at Jump-in. Please get in touch with Beck Ferguson for more information.

Field Day is on Sunday 22nd April at the Shropshire Showground and the competitions are Tug of War and Fence Erecting. Field Day is always a great social and a chance for members to let their hair down. We will have refreshments on site and plenty of competitive spirit to enjoy!

The last weekend in April is a busy one with Harper Adams Field to Fork festival on the Saturday, where SFYFC will be showcasing what we do and some fun activities, and Sunday is our Shearing, Stock Judging and Stockman of the Year competitions held by kind permission of the Potter family at Oaktree Farm, Frodesley.

Don’t forget the Personal Development meeting on the 5th and the Exec meeting on the 12th. Please pass your views onto your top table as they represent your club at this meeting. At the Exec meeting we will be discussing the proposed NFYFC levy increase on member subscriptions. Clubs have been circulated the information regarding the increase and a vote will be taken at the Exec on this matter to take forward to the NFYFC Agm.

It has been a hard couple of months farming wise in this cold/frozen weather but hopefully now things are starting to look up and the cows will soon be out!
