Officers Training Weekend- What a time we had!
Shropshire Young Farmers has just hosted our annual Officers Training Weekend. The weekend is a chance for the newly voted committee and club top tables to share their knowledge, learn about their roles for the year ahead and to get to know one another in a social and fun environment.
This year, the weekend was reinvented by changing the venue to the Arête Outdoor Activity Centre in Caernarfon. The centre had a lot of space with many different rooms which allowed small intimate training sessions to take place but was also suitable for large group activities for everyone to get involved in.
The format of the weekend was also changed. Clarrie Hocknell (Current County Vice Chairman), delegated training sessions to members of County Committees who had previous experience in a particular area. This worked really well as it created unique and interesting training sessions which grabbed people’s attention and maximised the amount learned.
This year, JJ Lynch a motivational speaker from Leading Edge Leadership came to talk to members about ‘how to run an effective meeting’. He was fantastic, engaged everyone and made club and committee members look at their meetings from a different perspective. JJ praised the Shropshire Young Farmers organisation by saying that they held one of the best interactive meetings he has seen for a long time. The key facts taken away from the meeting were time management, plan in advance, stick to the agenda, make sure all views are heard and to make sure conflict is resolved in a professional manner.
After a busy schedule, members enjoyed a night of fun in Bangor dressed as all manner of creatures from under the sea. They also had a splashing time rafting in a local lake surrounded by beautiful views of Snowdonia. The club would like to thank Arete Outdoor Centre staff for an unforgettable weekend, also to Dale Brothers who kindly sponsored the weekend. It is due to them that Shropshire members have now returned full of ideas and knowledge to use during their year ahead.
