CLUN VALLEY YFC- June's Club of the Month
A bit about the club
Chairman: Aled Rhys Jones Secretary: Alice Penelope Grimes Vice: Alicia Morris Treasurer: Rachael Lewis
Clun Valley is a small club of approximately 40 members, situated in south Shropshire on the welsh border. Being a very rural club, it's members are from a wide area around Clun Valley. It is coming up to its 70th anniversary in 2019, which will no doubt bring huge celebrations! Meetings are held at Clun Memorial Hall or The Sun Inn at the beginning of the month to discuss the upcoming months. This year they have been to BoingZone, bowling and held a very successful ‘Bavarian‘ barn dance.
Clun Valley started off the year well coming 3rd in the Entertainments competition with their performance “Going Underground”, a special thanks from the club to director and writer, former county chairman Wayne Davies. It saw involvement from many new members and the club performed the show in Clun, along with a cheese and wine night for the local community. The clubs senior after dinner speaking team have had another successful year, progressing to the National finals for a second year in a row; they will be competing later this year! Clun Valley YFC's street dance team also came second in the west midlands round which was a fantastic achievement. The club also provided some strong entries in the Pre- Rally field day and Shropshire show this year.
Bavarian Barn Dance
Clun Valley hosted the first barn dance of the season in the beginning of May which saw a fantastic turn out of around 430 people, some of which included YFC members from Warwickshire and Herefordshire! The barn dance was ‘Bavarian’ themed, which included 2 pint steins on arrival and 3 lagers on tap! Due to the success, the dance aims to become an annual event. The club would like to thank The Evans family for the kind permission of holding the event on their farm.
Over this YFC year, Clun Valley has raised money for numerous causes such as the local mother and toddler group, west midlands air ambulance and RABI. Most recently, club chairman Aled Rhys Jones braved the shave for Macmillan on the night of the dance and raised a fantastic £638.
Further to come this year...
Clun Valley YFC has had a great first half of 2017 and is currently in preparation for Rally. They are holding a presidents Luncheon at the beginning of July and are getting involved in helping with a Clun Sheep Society event, which will be held in Clun later in the year.
