Update on James Corfield
At the time of writing this newsletter the search for James Corfield, brother of Tom Corfield (Chirbury and Marton YFC) is ongoing. Many thanks for the SFYFC members who have helped with the searches for James over the past week. The Police have requested that no further public searches take place at the moment, they will continue with the professional specialist searches and extend their thanks to everyone who has helped with the search. The Police are still appealing for anyone who might have seen James late on Monday evening or during the early hours of Tuesday morning in / around Builth Wells. Please ring 101 with any information you might have. For support or if you would like to talk to someone at this difficult time, please contact myself, SFYFC, NFYFC or The Shropshire Rural Support Helpline on 0300 123 2825. Our love and thoughts are with the Corfield family at this worrying time.
The month started with the National Finals Weekend in Stafford, with a huge SFYFC presence, which makes me extremely proud. Please see below for the results, but a special congratulations to Newport YFC for Winning the Ladies Netball competition, and celebrating in true Newport style with bottles of bubbly on the sideline. GO GIRLS!
Show Season is upon us. Many members enjoyed a fantastic day at Newport Show, followed by a well supported Newport dance, the same night as Cleoburys Barn Dance which was also very well supported and run. Coming up we have Burwarton Show (3rd August) and Oswestry Show (5th August), please make sure your clubs get some entries together for the YFC tents, to showcase YFCs talents. And don’t forget the two After Show Dances!! Then on 19th August it is the Minsterley Show, I look forward to seeing lots of the Floats there and also the Final of the Club Challenge.
Friday 4th August we are holding our Charity Speed Shears on the Burwarton Showground sponsored by before the After Dance!! Lots of generous local companies including Hatchers, NFU Mutual, Kiwi Kit, Duncan Brassington Agricultural Sales, Burwarton Show, Hodges and Moss, Stitches of Bridgnorth. Oakwood Farm Services and many more have sponsored the event which means we have a huge amount of prize money and it promises to be a great social! Please spread the word and we look forward to seeing lots of people there.
The Stock Judging team have had a busy month again. We had a brilliant time at Burwarton Show stock judging competition, with the additional perk of CASH PRIZES! Congrats to Chris Potter for being the Overall Champ. This was a good warm up for WMA Stock Judging Competition last Sunday, hosted by Staffordshire YFC. 5 teams represented the County with some very pleasing results. Chris also won the WMA Senior Stockman of the Year competition and will be going on to represent Shropshire at the National final in September. Next up in the Stock Judging diary is Oswestry Show Stock Judging on the 1st August.
On the 9th July, the Young Members committee held a brilliant Rounders afternoon, with 9 teams competing. Congratulations to “the sportiest club in Shropshire” Dorrington YFC for being overall Champs.
The Competitions Committee hosted their last event of the year – the Pub Quiz, in a packed Bayston Hill Village Hall – results are below. There are only a couple more competitions to play for now for the Premier League: Press and Promotions and Club Challenge!
Much Wenlock YFC held a very successful POTM, with a huge turnout of well over 100 members! The next POTM is held by Dorrington on 9th August at the Bottle and Glass –I believe they’re putting up a marquee especially for us!
The Social Committee have one of their last events of the year coming up... the Mystery Tour!! It’s on Saturday 12th August. A coach (potentially a Double Decker if enough are keen) will be picking up from various locations around Shropshire. Contact the Social Committee for tickets!
The Dinner Dance Season started early this year, with Nesscliffe YFC holding a lovely Dinner Dance last week. Make sure you get your Dinner Dance’s in the County Diary asap to avoid clashes.
**Reminder** Please may all clubs let Sara know who your charities were for this year and how much you donated them by the end of August.
Plans are underway for the Chairman's Concert (Thursday 24th August), and this year it’s a little more special than usual as it is the evening we are to be presented with the Queens Award for Voluntary Service! We will start the evening at 7pm with Drinks and Canapes – all members, past and present, advisory members, friends, family, supports and sponsors are invited along to this.
With this in mind we hope to make the Concert a little more polished than usual. We propose to have 2 rehearsals: 17th August a Rehearsal at Livestock Market and 20th August a Dress Rehearsal on site on site. Donations for the concert will go towards our chosen charities and also a donation will be made to the charities who have supported the Corfield family in the search for James.
