NEWSLETTER APRIL 2017

News from the County Chairman...

Spring has sprung! And we’re as busy as ever…

AGRI Rep Sarah Hardman has done a fab job recently of organising Agri-forum events. We’ve had well attended talks from Shropshire Farm Vets and Pickstocks. Coming up we have a Farm Business Planning evening at the livestock market and a tour around Mawley Milk in Cleobury Mortimer – please see the county diary / the facebook events for more details.

The SFYFC comps calendar is starting to look a little quieter, but we do have the hotly contested Clay Pigeon shooting comp coming up! Then at the end of the month it’s time for the Stock Judgers to shine in the Stockman of the Year and Shropshire Show Stock Judging competitions. The shooting is once again a National Competition, so those at the top of the table will have the chance to represent us at the National Finals.

Congratulation to everyone who has been busy representing us at West Midlands Area and Southern Area rounds of comps recently – results are below, but I’m proud to report that Shropshire will be well represented in several National Finals.

SFYFC’s Chairman’s Charity Challenge Weekend is Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th April. The Chairmans Charity Challenge this year will see all 18 clubs undertake some community work or fund raising in their local community. You’ve got some great ideas planned; from tractor runs, car washes, soup kitchens, to undertaking some much needed maintenance of the local playing field. Make sure you let your local community know all of the good work your club does by getting it in the press!!

In the social calendar over the next month we have the Easter Ball, this year called “The Big Bow Ball” which will see members dancing away to a live band and DJ at Ludlow Racecourse. Remember to buy your tickets online early, as this is always a sell-out event.

And then, the biggest social event in the YFC calendar – the NFYFC Annual Convention – this year we’re off to Torquay!! I’m looking forward to seeing a few hundred SFYFC members in their pink t-shirts having a lovely time by the seaside. Your club top tables have been sent the “Standards of behaviour for AGM” presentation which they should hopefully deliver at you April business meeting.

At the end of the month we have our quarterly Exec meeting – please pass your views onto your top table as they represent your club at this meeting.

Finally a date for your diaries: 18th June 2017 we will be hosting a Fun Ride, open to the public, over the Clee Hill, in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance, Breast Cancer Care and Oak Farm in Ditton Priors, we would love to see as many riders there as possible to support 3 great causes.

For those of you who are starting to emerge from the calving / lambing shed, I hope it’s all gone well.

Becky
