NEWSLETTER JUNE 2017

News from the County Chairman...

Is it possible that May was the busiest month yet? But once again a fab month for SFYFC

The month started with Whitt and Os’ Pub of the Month at Oswestry Rugby club, featuring a rather competitive Beer Pong match – I think the home team had been practicing! Alberbury host the next POTM on the 21st June.

A Huge congratulation to the Shropshire Show Committee for running an extremely successful YFC tent last Saturday. The standard of entries was as high as ever and we have a huge 13 clubs build floats to parade around the ring. Congratulations to the Overall Show winners Rushbury and Cardington YFC. Congratulations also to Wem YFC, who well and truly upped the game with their float this year with not only a terrific trailer behind the tractor, but also a flying helicopter mounted on the front! The Mayor of Shrewsbury, two local MP’s and BBC Radio Shropshire, among others, came to look around our wonderful marquee and were all singing your praises. You can read our Shropshire Show article on the SFYFC website here

The Show Dance, this year a Sunday Social Barn Dance, held at Walford College was a huge success with over 400 members celebrating the Show in style.

The Rally Committee have been busy running a successful Field Day at Shropshire Showground and a separate Farm Business Development and Crop Judging day. The points are currently well split between all clubs, leaving everything to play for on the Rally Day. The Rally this year is 24th June, being kindly hosted by the Craig Family @ Westwood Farm, Bourton Westwood, Much Wenlock. Now the show has been and gone I am sure you will all start to concentrate on your Rally entries. Committee members please remember the Rally Site visit is on the 8th June. The Rally Dance will, as usual, follow the Rally Day. Tickets are available online at a cheaper rate – so make sure you get them early!

We also saw the return on the now annual 7s rugby competition, congratulations to the Champions Cleobury Mortimer YFC.

The AGRI Group this month had an extremely interesting tour around Mawley Milk – a dairy farm who process their own milk and embrace renewable technologies, thanks to the Robinson family for hosting a great evening. Watch out on facebook for details of the next farm tour.

Training has come to an end for the year. This month we held “How to Stage at Show” and a Fire Safety and Stewards Evening, both of which were well attended. If you have any suggestion of what training we should run next year please let us know.

Not only is it the County Rally this month but clubs also have their own Rally’s as a warm up! Make sure you get along and support  Dorrington on the 9th June at their Rally followed by a Dance.

On the 11th June it is Open Farm Sunday. Clarrie is heading up a stand at Home Farm, Attingham to promote SFYFC, if you would like to help her out please get in contact.

Our Charity Fun Ride is on the 18th June covering some of South Shropshire’s most beautiful farmland, with fabulous views of stunning countryside around the Clee Hill. Approx. 8 miles with optional jumps, rosettes and photography on site. Please spread the word about this event as it is in support of 3 great charities: Oak Farm, West Midlands Air Ambulance and Breast Cancer Care. It would be great if you could support the event on the day by taking part or stewarding!

Good luck to all of those competing at the West Midlands Area round of competitions at the Three Counties Show.

1st & 2nd July is the National Finals weekend in Stafford with Shropshire teams in the majority of classes, good luck to all of those representing us!

If you painted one of the fabulous Chairman's Ball Signs for the Show please may you put it up somewhere in your area, thank you!

Finally – later this week we have a HUGE and very exciting announcement to make - Watch this space!
