NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2017

News from the County Chairman...

August – you exhausted me! After a dry year, August’s rain certainly balanced things out again!

To start the month off we had the Shows, Burwarton, Oswestry and Minsterley, all really well supported by YFC and our members. It was great to see some of the Shropshire Show floats out again at Minsterley.  Alberbury and Rea Valley ran the YFC tent at Minsterley and did a great job of it too – winning the cup for the Best Small Trade Stand. The Comps Committee also hosted the Club Challenge Final here, hotly contested between Dorrington, Rushbury and Cardington and Whittington and Oswestry, with Rushbury and Cardington being crowned victorious!

Our Charity Speed Shears was at the beginning of the month and was very well supported by Shearers and Spectators! We had a fabulous evening, thank you very much to the Burwarton Show Committee for letting us use their Shearing Stand! We raised over £1,500 in total for our chosen charities (Oak Farm, Midlands Air Ambulance and Breast Cancer Care, and also Rupert's Revenge.

The Social Committee thought outside of the box for their final event of the year – the Mystery Tour! A coach load of us got picked up from various location in Shropshire on a Saturday afternoon, unknowing where we were heading!! Turned out to be Liverpool!! Great fun was had and well done to the Social Committee for organising a new kind of event.

Dorrington YFC held a fab Pub of the Month at the Bottle and Glass earlier in the month, many thanks to them for hosting it. Keep an eye out for details of the next POTM.

The Chairman's Charity Concert and presentation of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (Thursday 24th August) - THANK YOU, thank you, thank you to every single person who played a part in this evening, it made me so proud to be a part of. All of the acts really were fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable to watch and I cannot thank you enough for all of the effort you put into them. Many thanks to Madeleys Chartered Surveyors for sponsoring the evening and to Oak Apple Catering for the lovely Canapes and to Farlow Farm Nursery for providing all of the beautiful plants.  Our lovely shiny new Queen's Award and certificate will be available for everyone to see in the YFC office. The evening was run in aid of our Chosen Charities and also Brecon Mountain Rescue and the Rapid Relief Team. We don’t have a final total just yet but thank you for all of the generous donations. Many thanks to Barclays Bank for Match Funding the evening, meaning we will raise even more for Charity!!

And then, the small party we had last Saturday night... The Chairman's Ball!! Thank you to everyone who helped out and made the Ball possible, especially Lil Davies (Ball Secretary) and Kate Bennett (Ball Treasurer), Mum, Dad, Al and Chris. I’m sure you will agree the marquee looked amazing and thankfully the evening ran smoothly. 2,000 young farmers partied the night away while over 100 stewards and volunteers worked tirelessly to make the evening so memorable. I think it’s safe to say Shropshire Chairman's Ball is still the biggest and the best!

We are currently in the process of the County Committee Handover meetings and Club AGMs. Good Luck to all of those taking on new roles. It will be the most rewarding thing you do in your YFC career so make sure you get stuck in and most of all enjoy it!

Two very well qualified candidates have been nominated to stand as Clarrie’s Vice-Chairman, one of whom will be elected at the County AGM on 11th November 2017. We have Fred “Hove” Allen from Cleobury Mortimer YFC who held the position of Competitions Committee Chairman this year and also we have Dan “Big D” Roberts from Nesscliffe YFC who held the position of Social Committee Chairman this year. You will see them out and about a lot over the next few months, best of luck to both of them!

Good Luck to all of our members who are competing in the final NFYFC comps of the year; Stockman of the Year Final, Active Team Cookery Finals and the Floral Arts Finals.

**Reminder** Please may all clubs let Sara know who your charities were for this year and how much you donated to them as soon as possible.

New Club and County Top Tables – don’t forget to put Officer Training Weekend in your diaries. It is earlier than usual this year, being Friday 6th October to Sunday 8th October. It’s a great way to kick start your YFC year and to get to know all of the other office holder from around the county. I really would recommend every office holder attends this weekend.

Please may all clubs let us know dates of new members evening.

Hopefully see you over the coming months at AGMs, Pre-AGMs, New Members Evenings and Dinner Dances.

Becky
